The History of
Whitey & Mama Dough's
Country Curve Restaurant

Whitey and Mama Dough's Country Curve Restaurant was established
in August 2001.  The business has always been a landmark restaurant
in Perry County.  The structure was built in 1962, when John and Mary Ellen
Carlin purchased the land from John and Mary Bailor.

John and Mary Ellen Carlin built the structure as a log cabin and opened for
business as Big John's Drive-In.  Their specialty was soft serve ice cream,
soda pop, and a burger & fries.

In 1967 the business was acquired by Arden and Audrey Shambaugh
of Newport.  They continued the restaurant and ice cream business
under the name "The Curve".

Ken and Sandra Landis purchased the business in 1977 from the
Shambaugh's and renamed it "Uncle Ken's Curve".

In 1986 the business was sold to Samuel and Ida Mae Herr
who later sold the business to Kimberly Leister in 1993.

The Curve Coffee Club was established during the ownership of
Uncle Ken.  A commemorative plaque was designed to hold the
names of our dear friends who have passed and were faithful members
of the club.  This tradition is still carried on today.  We still have our faithful
members and some who have left us.  Their names are forever engraved
in the plaque that hangs to the left of the restroom entryway.
